Woodfired Beads....

Coming soon.....Bill has enough pottery to fill his woodfire kiln so I'm going to grab my little spot in it and hope to be able to come out with some very cool and unusual beads... This will be the 4th time that I've included beads and I think I will try 2 glazes that have been pretty dependable. I also think that I will keep most of the shapes somewhat rounded. Reason being....the effects on the beads are created with a combination of oxidation and ash from the various types of wood. Sometimes the ash gets a little too caught up on ridges, etc. making for a rough surface. I'm hoping that I have more that live through the firing if I round the edges and keep the beads smooth....

A peek inside the kiln while reaching it's peak in temperature....

An opening....

some very cool beads which I love....

the rounds had a little more success....

This is always a popular color....I think I will use this glaze also....

Hopefully, I will have success....Bill is the one that does all the hard work!  I make the beads and then stay inside while he slaves over the kiln for 12 hours.....
