A STORY...

Here are the beads (most of them) that are from the firing that I did yesterday. I've also made a bunch of connectors, pendants, etc., but have to decide which to list and which will turn into jewelry.

Decisions...decisions....

Guess, if this is as tough as it gets in the decision making world...

then I've got it pretty good....

On a personal note:

I've recently has a crazy experience where my little 8 year old toy poodle suddenly went blind in both eyes. I took him to the vet who referred me to Cornell. You get referrals there often when you live close by. Anyhow, off to Cornell we went. $1000 (hello credit card debt) worth of testing and drops later, they didn't know what was wrong with him. He kept getting worse. Next choice: the Neurologist. I felt terrible by this point and also did lots of searching within myself. I've been working on listening to my intuition the older I get.

We really should do that more often.

I made the decision that I was not going to go any further with this and I was going to just give it time. He was very sick and his eyes were a mess. Well...it's been about 2 weeks and although he is blind, he is almost back to his old self. He's up walking around, barking (which was very annoying and is now great to hear), eating and just being an ordinary dog. He is still getting drops to relieve the pressure pain and lots of drops for his VERY dry eyes (no tears at all). I have also had to make, yet another decision, and that is to have the eyes removed. It sounds kinda crazy and my guess is that he will look a little off (the Vet tells me it won't be as bad as I think), but it will take care of the pain.

Poor little guy....

So...why this story? Enjoy the times in life when decision making is as small as, "do I use this bead or do I use that one?" Even my Mikito the toy poodle story is small in terms of decisions that I've faced throughout my crazy life.

(It is pretty calm right now with my wonderful husband, 3 dogs and cozy home in the country

....do I dare put this down in print?)

Awww MaryAnn, your poor little fur baby. I'm glad his health is getting back on track. It's amazing how well animals can adapt to changes in their environment. My dear friend's parents have white toy poodle that I've known since we were Seniors in High School... the dog is now 17 has cushing's disease, blind in both eyes and has 1 leg that they had to amputate 7 years ago now. But that little pup doesn't pay any attention... her tail still wiggles and she's happy as a clam.

Following intuition is sometimes very challenging... but it does yield the best result. Good luck with the surgery sweetie... from my fur babies and I we'll be sending Mikito lots of love and healing energies!

{Hugs!}
Dawn

Oh, Mary Ann, what tough decisions. You are probably a little like us. Our pups are a lot like our own children. We've had to make some tough decisions as well and I sympathize with you. Hope the pain your little pup is feeling gets resolved soon.

Thanks for the kind words. Prior to this, my girlfriend and walking partner was having issues with her dog who also had diabetes and Cushing's Disease. She ended up getting all kinds of surgery and the do still is blind in one eye. I was listening to all of her stories (like friends do) and then my dog goes blind! Go figure. It happened overnight. He would get out of his crate one morning and that was the beginning of all of this! I think he is going to be okay. He just went over to clean up the last little bit of food that he had left over. Funny...since he has been better, his appetite is FAR better than it has been his entire life! Must be the sence smell and taste have intensified :O)

i am glad you put this down in print... it is hard to make these difficult medical (and unfortunately financial) decisions regarding our fur children... and it sounds like with good information and listening to your gut, the answer became clear to you... my aunt had a blind dog - yes, one has to get used to not moving things around on them... setting up an environment that is predictable... but she otherwise led a very happy and fulfilled life...
the new beads look wonderful!

Sorry to hear about Mikito. The dogs really are family members. I hope he'll be okay.

So sorry about your puppy but it sounds like he is doing much better and you made the right decision. My husband and I had a cat that got very sick and we just did not have the money required for the surgery so we had to just let him go. It was very hard, but probably for the best.

The beads look fabulous! :)

I had to make a decision recently about my fifteen year old gentlemen mutt, Rudy. It was hard, but I couldn't watch him suffer. You will make the right decision. It is so hard, because they can't really tell you anything about how they are feeling.

Big kisses and hugs from Texas.

Thanks Gerry! I will post an update about what happened to him once the fur grows back. I did have to opt to have his eyes removed, but he is doing remarkably well...all things considered! At least I know that now his pain is gone....
