Just a quick little post to "show off" my new focal beads. When I first made a small batch of these a few weeks ago, I wasn't sure what was going to happen. I was a bit concerned that they would all come out looking like a bull's eye since that is what the unfired glaze what reminding me of. Much to my surprise, they came out looking pretty cool.
As you can see, I didn't end up with target practice.
Gotta love that HEAT!
Gotta love that HEAT!
After forming these beads from mid-fire (cone 6) porcelain, I carved out some clay from the center. I left the walls thick for durability, but wanted to lessen the weight a little.
And then there was turquoise...
Many people call this blue color teal, I call it turquoise. That's what it reminds me of. I used 2 different glazes to achieve more of a "stone" like effect on this particular glaze.
And some other color combos.... |
Finally...my little wheels got to a spinnin' and I wonder what would happen with these glazes combos on a flat surface....Sand Art!
I think I'll be making a few more of these :O)

These are truly amazing!!! I love to see what happens with glazes. I have to say that is the best part of taking ceramics, in college, is experimenting with glaze recipes and seeing what happens.
I seriously love the first focal bead but the rest of them are yummy too!
